Toby and Henry are the smarty pants behind Stripey Shirt - a business collaboration of their individual photography and videography skills. Their shared aesthetic, chill vibe, and complementing mediums, make them a winning combo for the wedding game. With Henry likening his own 'photo taking playlist' to the same standard of a mix by Calvin Harris, couples are guaranteed a fun x laidback session. Bring Toby's quirky quality control measures in to the picture (he checks to see if his mum will cry happy tears at his creations) - and you've got an undeniable team.
TWSCO: Why do you do what you do?
SS: As the opportunity of us working together came along naturally so did the love for capturing people kissing on camera……I mean weddings haha. We both have a cruisey approach to our work and thrive off capturing the raw in the moment stuff and weddings are basically one big day of these. I don’t think it’s possible to get a better feeling from editing and putting together all the moments from a couples big day and then sending it over to them to relive the day.
TWSCO: Do you do weddings full time? If yes, can you tell us how you felt when you made the jump? If no, what's stopping you?
SS: We both do photography and videography full time and damn stoked to do so! With weddings mostly on weekends, throughout the work week we shoot under Henry’s business Newy Digital (we’re pretty sure we see and talk to each other more than we do our partners), we work with local businesses creating photo and video content mostly for advertisement. We love the mix of creative work we do between weddings and the commercial stuff!
TWSCO: What program or tech can't you live without?
SS: Toby - Premiere Pro, without that bad boy I’d be piecing weddings together with star wipes on Windows Movie Maker. Henry - AirPods, gotta get into the zone and block out Toby’s voice some how.
TWSCO: What do you think has been a key reason for the success of your business?
SS: We’re both in Stripey Shirt 110% because we genuinely love what weddings offer and give creatively which keeps us motivated to do what we do best and put in the time/effort when it’s needed. Also a big part would be our personalities, we have the cruisey and relaxed attitudes but we are pretty damn different in some ways and that’s what makes us work on a personal level which we feel shows through the business.
TWSCO: What's next for you?
SS: We want to continue in the wedding game and grow to place where we are comfortable lifestyle wise and financially. We have certain business goals we want to hit but overall we want to keep doing what we love (cliche as F*$k but it’s true), being our own bosses and forcing couples into awkward poses.
