Outside the 9 to 5 with caravan bar owner Kayla Collins.
TWSCO: Why do you do what you do?
KC: I always worked in bars and wanted to own one but the logistics of running a bar wasn't the kind of stress I wanted in my life. Weddings were the ideal job. I still get to run a bar but I don't have the downsides to deal with.
TWSCO: Do you do weddings full time? If yes, can you tell us how you felt when you made the jump? If no, what's stopping you?
KC: Yes I do, and when I first started I felt broke. When we started out we charged half of what we charge now and ended up with no profit after each event. If we continued that way I would have had to call it a hobby, not a job. To do weddings full time I had to put the extra effort in working on my business through the week, to get to a point of it being my sole income. It's definitely still a full time job.
TWSCO: What program or tech can't you live without?
KC: Google Calendar and Xero.
TWSCO: What do you think has been a key reason for the success of your business?
KC: My fear of failing. I could never go back to working for someone else, so if I fail I'm screwed. I'd rather work 20 hours a day for myself than work for 5 for someone else.
TWSCO: What's next for you?
KC: I'll keep building caravan bars!
