Outside the 9 to 5 with Joel from Barefoot & Bearded.

TWSCO: Why do you do what you do?

JOEL: I think like each and every one of us we all strive for an intimate and sincere form of human connection. And having the absolute privilege to help a couple in love celebrating one of many pinnacles in their lives is an awesome way to be a part of that. Epic photos of travelling is a bi-product of that.

TWSCO: Do you do weddings full time? If yes, can you tell us how you felt when you made the jump? If no, what's stopping you?

JOEL: I have been photographing couples in love for 4 years full time now. The jump wasn't one that was scary for me at all really. I have always been confident in my ability to problem solve and run a business. People always freak out about this jump, fuck it! Just do it! Jump and the net will appear... You will never be homeless, you have family and friends that will love and support you. If you don't do it now you never fucking will. Just do it and make it work! #preacher

TWSCO: What program or tech can't you live without?

JOEL: Holy fuck Studio Ninja is an absolute life saver! Keeps my whole business together and links to XERO which is great for making bookkeeping and admin stuff easy as hell!

TWSCO: What do you think has been a key reason for the success of your business?

JOEL: I think my no bullshit approach to this crazy industry is refreshing to couples. My tagline is "Fuck Traditions, Do It Your Way" definitely get's couples thinking about all societies expectations on what they "need to do" and think outside the box to create something unique and different. #fuckthestatusquo!

TWSCO: What's next for you?

JOEL: I can't sit still for too long and always have a million things on at once, so I never know where I am going. But for now, just really trying to adventure into and create the best photos I can via old analog and film photography. The old processes of analog and the perfection it demands is just invigorating and addictive!
