Outside the 9 to 5 with photographer Dea from Little Black Bow Photography.
TWSCO: Why do you do what you do?
DP: Because I am passionate about documenting different stages in people’s lives and being able to tell their story in a creative way.
TWSCO: Do you do weddings full time? If yes, can you tell us how you felt when you made the jump? If no, what's stopping you?
DP: I do! When I made the jump it was scary but so empowering. I had built my business up while I had worked for an energy company for 13 years as I wanted the security of knowing I was established enough when I went full time. Going full time was the best thing I ever did. I still get excited to ‘go to work’ and have met amazing friends in the industry.
TWSCO: What program or tech can't you live without?
DP: Studio Ninja, they have broken it down to suit the mind of a photographer. Amazing!
TWSCO: What do you think has been a key reason for the success of your business?
DP: Being myself. When I started I thought I had to cater to my idea of what people wanted (think: all black outfit, hair pulled back), rather than just dressing the way I wanted and holding back on the mum jokes. But when you embrace that ‘you are your brand’ and put your personality into everything you do I think it makes people relate to you more and therefore makes you more successful.
TWSCO: What's next for you?
DP: Well apart from having another coffee, I want to keep running a successful business and put some more energy into the customer experience side of things.
